PORTFOLIO

The Piece Hall

The Piece Hall is an amazing, Grade 1 listed building residing in the heart of Halifax. Originally built as a cloth hall (a ‘piece’ is the measure of cloth that was sold) It is a classic piece of Georgian architecture and second only to York Minster in it’s iconic status in Yorkshire.

Over the years The Piece Hall has been a bit neglected and although a still a favorite spot for Calderdale residents it has been due for a new injection of life for a while now.

There is a multi-million pound bid at present for funds to regenerate the structure of the building, but in the mean-time there has been a huge concentration on getting people to start using the building again & getting them to “fall in love with the place”, particularly through events that happen in it’s grand courtyards.

I have been lucky enough to work on this wonderful project. The brief was “make it nothing like we have ever had before, make it fun & interesting, so people cannot ignore the fact that things are changing.

So that’s what I did!

A new logo to go with fresh, funky, designs which include a lot of illustration has impacted hugely on peoples perceptions of the place. The summer brochure needed reprinting within 3 weeks of release as so many people took it away.

The best sort of job - one where you can go a bit mad - and one where I get to get the pencils out again!
