2009 is the first year that Halifax has held a comedy festival. It is run over 1 week at four venues across the town, and includes many well known & new comedians from TV and from The Edinburgh Festival.

As this is the first time a comedy festival is to be held, I was asked to come up with a complete brand and look for the event, as well as 28 page brochure, mini website and on-line game (which was put together with me by Game Based Learning).

I came up with a character “Ha!Chicken”, (from why did the chicken cross the road), and he was interspersed throughout the brochure and website. The online game finds Ha!Chicken trying to cross the road to the Victoria Theatre and once there, you fight your way backstage to appear in the spotlight.

I also put together a montage for the posters and front image of the brochure, trying to get as many comedy cliches into one picture as I could!

The overall idea is to try and get the people of Halifax to view the town in a different light and to jump start a cultural programme in the area.

That’s how the “Stand-Up for Halifax” tag line came along.
