3 Man Bench

3 Man Bench play quirky, intense British pop, in the vein of XTC and British Sea Power.  Between them the members of the band have sold over 1.5 million albums. This one was recorded in their own huge, high-end studios, currently hired out to the likes of Idlewild, Graham Coxon (Blur)  and production company Smooth Operations for Radio 2. The band make use of the huge amount of vintage and quirky instruments plus a full ex-miners brass band on some of the songs. The cover reflects their love of British retro-kitsch and the fact they don’t take themselves too seriously!

Part of the design work was to produce a brand for the band to use across everything they do. The resulting work was so strong we ended up using it as the full cover for the CD.

As part of the 3 Man Bench publicity I brought in a stylist, shot and art directed the photos.

£ Man Bench is based in Castleford near Leeds, hence the sign “welcome to fabulous Cas Vegas.” (yes it’s a bit of a dump!)

This really was a case of applying big brand thinking to a project you wouldn’t expect.
